For 20 years, I have designed, led and executed strategic communications campaigns that shaped the interactions between organizations and their stakeholders -- especially during times of growth, change and crisis.
As Senior Vice President of Impact & Insights for Citi Community Investing & Development, the unit which leads Citigroup's commitment to financial inclusion, racial and gender equity, and economic opportunity, I specialize in connecting key audiences to the complex challenges facing vulnerable communities in clear, accessible and authentic ways. My experience spans both the tactical aspects of communications, such as writing, public speaking and building websites, as well as the sensitive work of building coalitions and overseeing multi-partner national campaigns under extreme time and resource constraints.
But really, the thing I love most about communications is storytelling.
Over nearly a decade at Citigroup, I have led and executed national visibility and outreach campaigns for Citi's flagship initiatives focused on racial and gender equity, financial inclusion and social impact. Many of these visibility campaigns resulted in Citi receiving significant recognition for its work, including EuroMoney Magazine’s 2017 World’s Best Bank for Financial Inclusion; U.S. Conference of Mayors Public-Private Partnership Award; U.S. Community Reinvestment Interagency Award; and others.
Just a few examples of these campaigns include:
a multi-city initiative in partnership with National Disability Institute to advance equity and economic opportunity for low-income people with disabilities and their families
a national initiative aimed at increasing citizenship among eligible U.S. permanent residents and encouraging cities and counties across the country to pair citizenship programs with financial capability services
the nation's first universal college savings account program, K2C provides all students in the San Francisco Unified School District with a specialized account that enables them to earn incentives while they save for their future education
Writing has been a central part of both my communications and service design worlds. I've authored speeches, thought leadership articles, research reports and op/eds on behalf of senior Citi executives, elected officials and community leaders; developed media pitches; produced content for social media, web and other online touchpoints; and developed talking points, datasheets and media briefings for Citi leadership and program partners.
Most of my thought leadership work for Citi has been either ghost-writing on behalf Citi executives and leaders of partner organizations, or is not permitted to be shared publicly. That said, I am able to provide samples of my work upon request.
I have led the production of dozens of short videos highlighting the positive impact of Citi's financial inclusion programs and partnerships. My work included developing and storyboarding the story concepts; identifying and vetting participants and locations; conducting interviews and directing shoots, overseeing post-production, gathering legal approvals and making sure the videos reached our key stakeholder audiences.
